About the Course
1) Pre-1 / First Grade
Course Title:Â Joyful Sounds: Music Exploration and Movement
Description:Students are introduced to the world of music through singing, rhythm games, movement, and imaginative play. They explore basic musical concepts such as high/low, loud/soft, fast/slow, and steady beat. Songs are often connected to seasons, holidays, and classroom themes. Instruments such as rhythm sticks, shakers, and tambourines are introduced for hands-on learning and coordination.
2) Grades 2–4
Course Title:Â Building Musical Literacy and Expression
Description:Students expand their musical vocabulary by learning to read basic rhythmic and melodic notation. They develop pitch-matching skills through singing and begin recognizing song structure (verse/chorus) and dynamics. Students are introduced to classical music, folk songs, and cultural music traditions. Group performance, listening skills, and participation in simple ensemble activities (e.g., classroom percussion or recorder) are emphasized to build confidence and musicality.
3) Grades 5–6
Course Title:Â Musicianship and Ensemble Foundations
Description:Students deepen their understanding of music theory, rhythm, and notation. Emphasis is placed on ensemble work, both vocal and instrumental (e.g., recorder, ukulele, hand percussion). Students study music history and composers, and begin composing short rhythmic or melodic patterns. Aural skills, part-singing, and basic harmony are introduced. Students may prepare seasonal or school-wide performances, learning stage presence and rehearsal discipline.
4) Grades 7–8
Course Title:Â Advanced Music Studies and Performance
Description:Middle school students explore more complex musical forms and genres, including classical, jazz, world music, and modern popular styles. They study chord progressions, time signatures, and musical expression through guided performance and composition projects. Students may choose between vocal or instrumental focus, with opportunities for solo and group work. Music appreciation, critical listening, and digital music tools (where applicable) are also incorporated. Formal performance opportunities may include concerts, choirs, or school events.
